iPhone Skin - Most Pens Don't Want to Color Someone's World in Black

I posted this skin for sale today. Here is the story of its creation.

I drew this picture in around November 2010. Right in the beginning of my new found drawing kick. When I was younger, I would draw all the time. Then I got sick of it, so I stopped. Now that I am 30 I decided to give it a try again. Stuff was just feeling like coming out of my arm in a design format.

This design was actually supposed to turn out way different. I originally intended to only use silver, gold, copper colored pencils, and black ink. But I just couldn't stand it. I needed color! As you can see from this in-progress snapshot, the swirly thing wasn't there at first. I first wanted to make it a sun.

The swirly actually came to be after I totally screwed up the ink in the circle. I havent figured out how to erase ink mistakes yet. Those pens were so annoying, they kept running out of ink. They were just regular Pilot pens. It seemed like the picture didn't want to be so BLACK, hence the title of the drawing.

The squid eyeball and red and gold swirlies along the bottom and right side were also afterthoughts. This entire drawing, in fact, is pretty much totally ad-libbed. That is kind of rare for me. Usually I have a huge whim of inspiration and I create something that has some profound meaning. But this one is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

iPhone Skin - Collision Course

This is the second phone skin I posted for sale today. It is the very first phone skin I ever made.

This drawing began on a whim. I just suddenly wanted to draw, so I drew. It was the first design I made intended for a skin. I had done a little drawing before this one recently, but nothing I could make something with. Except an awesome photo frame design, which you might just see up for sale some day.

I had no idea what I was going to draw. I just put on my headphones, played my Arcade Fire/Shins playlist, and it just came out. It only took about a half hour to complete. It flowed so smoothly and easily out of my hand.

I always have to have swirlies and colors in my drawings. My favorite part of this one is the purple and pink swirly thing. I don't know what it is. It reminds me of a dolphin jumping out of the water or something. My second favorite part is the "purple poof" coming out of the left hand side. That was the most complex part of the drawing. It took a little while for me to get the shading right on it. It includes several layers of pink, purple, and blue.

This drawing actually looks better to my personal eye on paper. I use this design in my photos and icons a lot because it is my very first drawing intended for sale. And it felt so wonderful drawing it. Here is the original. As you can see I tried to keep going, then I realized my breeze of inspiration was gone. So it was done.

After I printed it and put it on my black iPhone, I realized I was going to have to draw more black-based designs. This design would be perfect for a white iPhone. But it also partially made my phone look white for awhile, which was fun. :)

A New Leaf.

Months have passed since my last entry and many leaves have turned. I have kicked into a higher gear, maybe 3rd, and started weaving and drawing and creating like crazy. I have to thank my ex-boss for this, for if I was not laid off from my office job in November, I would never have the time to do this. Hence, my blog is being revamped and set up for crafting features.

Dear new readers: please forgive my past entries...

I should probably just make a little note here, since I am intending to expand my audience to the art and craft world...

I have had this blog for close to 2 years now. It has been on a continuously changing cycle of evolution ever since. If you read my older entries, you will find that they are not really focused on creative endeavors. This blog used to be primarily an online journal. I am a super introspective person, and I do not really think it would be appropriate for me to delete these entries simply because I am going a new direction with my blog. That stuff is still me, and I probably will still blog about that stuff sometimes anyway. HOWEVER, some of it does contain profanity and some very dark and vulgar language, so I want to let you know to read with caution.
